KATHMANDU: Pokhareli locals on Tuesday have picketed Singha Durbar, mounting pressure on the government to initiate construction work for a Regional International Airport (RIA) in Pokhara without delay.

Shouting slogans against the government, the irate Pokharelis are gheraoing the main administrative hub of the country as part of their programmes to heap pressure on the government to heed their demand.

The Regional International Airport Construction Concern Committee (RIACCC) has been organising the protest programmes demanding immediate construction of the international airport.

The Maitighar-Baneshwor road stretch has been affected due to the demonstration, said traffic police.

Pokhara denizens said the government had taken 3,106 Ropanis of land from them way back in 1994 promising them to build the regional international airport in Pokhara.
