KATHMANDU: Nepal Medial Association, Chitwan Chapter on Sunday has brought health services in all Chitwan-based hospitals, except emergency, to a grinding halt over assault on superintendent of Bharatpur Hospital Mahendra Raj Neupane.
“We have shut down all the all the health services, except emergency, in all hospitals in Chitwan in protest of the attack against our superintendent of Bharatpur Hospital Mahendra Raj Neupane by the kin of a patient who died last night while undergoing treatment,” said Bhola Rauniyar, Chairman of Nepal Medical Association, Chitwan Chapter.
As many as 20-25 persons brandishing sticks had thrashed superintendent Neupane at wee hours of Sunday, accusing doctors of killing the patient over negligence.
Ram Chandra Samari (53) of Mahohari VDC-3, Makawanpur, who had been hospitalised at Bharatpur Hospital for the treatment of asthma, had died at 11:30 last night.
Victim Neupane has sustained a deep cut under his left eye in the attack.
“My father has died of suffocation as the doctors administered less amount of oxygen than the required one,” said patient’s son Rajan Samari.
However, the doctors denied the allegation. “We had been giving 5-6 kg of oxygen to the patient per hour and we had always 2-3 cylinders of oxygen in stock,” said doctor Bhoj Raj Adhikari.
Police has taken patient‘s another son Krishna Hari Samari under control.
