KATHMANDU: Assessing that the promulgation of new constitution was impossible now, the major parties are mulling over the ways to deal the situation after the expiry the Constituent Assembly’s term on Sunday midnight, according to Bhim Acharya, the chief whip of CPN-UML.
A meeting of the top leaders of major parties and Constituent Assembly Chairman Subash Chandra Nembang is discussing three alternatives including the declaration of state of emergency to extend the CA term by six more months, he said.
Other two options include transforming the CA into an interim parliament and conducting fresh elections, he told the media emerging from the meeting being held at Nembang’s chamber in the CA hall.
The decision will, however, be political rather than constitutional as there is not time for the CA or the Legislature-Parliament to endorse any of the alternatives as per the constitutional provisions.
