KATHMANDU: Purbanchal University School of Engineering and Technology (PUSET) College advanced to the quarter-finals of the Martyr Dil Bahadur Ramtel Running Cricket Cup defeating Khwopa Engineering College by 12 runs on Saturday. PUSET scored 111-4 in 15 over and restricted Khwopa for 99 in14.5 overs. Amar Nath Chaudhary top scored 46 runs for Puset. Anup Singh took two wickets for Khwopa. In reply, man-of-the-match Sandrab claimed three wickets for PUSET. In league matches, Management Campus edged Yeti Health Club by eight runs, Balkumari College hammered Gateway College by 10 wickets and President College routed Kath College by 67 runs.
Ghale wins trophy
KATHMANDU: Maj Gen Daman Bahadur Ghale won the title of the second Himalayan Bank Golf Tournament here at the Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club on Saturday. Ghale finished first on count back after he was tied at 39 points with Lt Col Basanta Gurung. Kesang Lama won the ladies trophy with 33 points, while Kalpana Limbu came second at 30. Maj Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi won the best gross award with 36 points. Brig Gen Bhupendra Bahadur Thapa won the senior section title with 35 points, while Maj Gen Gajendra Bahadur Limbu (31) came second. Other winners included Mandeep KC (most birdies), Gautam Sayami (closest to the pin), Subodh Thapa (longest drive) and Wangchen Dhondup (guest).
Azarenka enters final
INDIAN WELLS: The top two women in the world reached the Indian Wells final on Friday as Victoria Azarenka eased through in straight sets while Maria Sharapova advanced when her opponent retired with an injury. World No 1 Azarenka extended her season-long match win streak to 22-0 by beating German Angelique Kerber 6-4, 6-3 in a semi-final match on centre court. Russia's world No 2 Sharapova, who won the 2006 Indian Wells title, advanced to Sunday's final when a distraught Ana Ivanovic retired from the other semi-final with a hip injury. In the men's side of the draw, world No 2 Rafael Nadal and world No 3 Roger Federer set up their first semi-final clash. — AFP
