KIRTIPUR: Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal laid the foundation stone for the construction of Pushpa Lal Memorial building on the occasion of Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day at the UML headquarters in Madannagar, Balkhu on Tuesday.
Speaking at the programme, Prime Minister Khanal hailed contributions made by UML leaders Madan Bhandari and Jivaraj Ashrit. He said Bhadari and Ashrit had played a vital role to raise Communist movement through theoretical, ideological, and organisational ways.
He said the theory of 'Janatako Bahudaliya Janabad' brought in by his party under Bhandari’s leadership in 2049 BS for creative development of Marxism is still significant today.
During the programme, UML secretary Shanker Pokhrel said late leaders Bhandari and Ashrit had made significant contributions to take the Communist movement of Nepal to the present height.
On the occasion, Prof Dr Bhagawan Koirala, Prof Madhav Kumar Shrestha, Dambar Bahadur Shrestha were awarded for their special contribution in different sectors.
UML leaders, Bhandari and Ashrit died in a mysterious jeep accident at Dasdhunga on Jestha 3, 2050 BS, while they were heading to Chitwan from Pokhara.
UML marks Jaetha 3 as Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day every year in memory of their unexpected and untimely deaths.
