PM plea to Maoists

Himalayan News Service

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal today urged the Unified CPN-Maoist not to pose the passage of the budget as a pre-condition to fulfill their demands.

Speaking at the central gathering of UML cadres at National Convention Centre, Nepal said jail inmates, ill persons and the Maoist combatants were among those facing problems because of the delay in passing the budget.

He warned the Unified CPN-Maoist not to dream of forming its own government by intimidating the majority of the people’s representatives. He criticised the UCPN-M for labelling his government a ‘puppet’ and wondered, “How can a majority government be a puppet?”

He said the definition of ‘civilian supremacy’ coined by one party could not be acceptable to the whole nation.

He even accused some CPM-UML leaders of being non-cooperative. “Such leaders do not have any place in the party,” he said.
