KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) leaders have reiterated that the NC will maintain its stance for the parliamentary system in the new constitution, yet to be promulgated.
Addressing the inaugural function of 7th central council meeting of the Nepal Financial Employees Association of the Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB), in the Capital, today, NC leaders Dr. Ramsharan Mahat and Man Bahadur Bishwakarma were heard saying that their party is in favor of electing the President and Prime Minister from the parliament.
"The NC is not in favor of the direct election of the president and prime minister, if it is there, the sovereignty of the people will be under threat," they said.
On the occasion, NC leader Bishwakarma said, the present government had attacked the rule of law by deciding to seek presidential pardon for the murder convict Maoist lawmaker Balkrishna Dhungel.
The former finance minister Dr. Mahat said the Rastriya Banijya Bank has to improve the internal system and stressed for working as per the public expectation
