Once upon a time there was a king”; yesterday, I was reading the story “Once there was a King” (1916) by Rabindranath Tagore, a great writer from India. The story has been narrated by a Grannie (grandmother) to a 7-year old boy, who is extremely curious and enthusiastic about the plot. The story begins with existence of a king, a queen and their small daughter...My mobile started ringing; It was a call from one of my friends in Kathmandu...During the conversation, he reminded me that yesterday was the deadline for the former king to evacuate the palace...It was late evening and ex-king Gyanendra was addressing the media just before leaving the Narayanhity Palace.
The former king said during the press
meet that he accepted the May 28 declaration (of republic) and pledged to cooperate
for peace, progress and independence of Nepal...I am still not sure if there is any
direct relevance of the “story” with the present context of Nepal. www.deependrajha.com
