DHARAN: Tension ran high today at Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences when relatives and family members of Pramila Rai of Dharan manhandled a doctor after her six-day-old newborn baby died due to doctor’s negligence on Monday.
Pramila Rai was admitted to the hospital for delivery seven days ago. Kin of the deceased have demanded that the doctor involved in the treatment of the child be punished as the baby died due to his negligence. Shibaraj Limbu, father of the deceased, said that they would not accept the body unless the doctor was punished.
DSP Rajendra Bista said that relatives and family members of Pramila Rai had misbehaved with the doctor accusing him of sheer negligence. No untoward incident was reported, Bista informed.
Meanwhile, Gaur Shankar Sah, chief of Children’s Ward at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, claimed that newborn had died while he was being treated in the ICU. “The doctor is not culpable for the child’s death,” Sah added. Investigation, however, is underway, Sah said.
