Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha briefly met with United States President Barack Obama in the reception hosted by the President Obama and Mrs Michelle Obama in honour of the Heads of Delegation to the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly.

NEW YORK: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Kaji Shrestha said that Nepal is in process of rebuilding Republican state to make our society more just, peaceful, equitable, and prosperous.
“Nepal government is committed to resolve all outstanding problems through dialogue and consensus and move forward resolutely for the larger interest of Nepalis,” said Shrestha, the leader of the Nepalese delegation to the 67th Session of the UN General Assembly, while addressing the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on “Peace building: Way towards sustainable peace and security”.
He said Nepal has been making tremendous efforts in socio-economic transformation of society by choosing to adopt the federal structure of governance and inclusive development processes following the successful peopl’s movement in 2006 which led to the overthrow of monarchy.
While saying that peace building is tantamount to institutionalisation of democracy and elimination of exclusion, injustice, repression and desolation, DPM Shrestha said that when there is a respect for human rights and inclusion, equity and justice in the socio-cultural and economic sphere of life, conflict in many ways become irrelevant
