THT Online

KATHMANDU: Phulpathi, the seventh day of Dashain, is being observed with much fanfare across the country with various kinds of flowers adorning household shrines as per tradition on Friday.

The branches of banana, sugarcane, mango and chaap and leaves of ashok, belpatra paddy, ginger and other fruits are displayed inside homes as a symbol of good luck.

As usual, the Phulpathi will be celebrated in Hanuman Dhoka Dashain Ghar. According to tradition the Phulpathi is carried by various ethnic groups-Bhahun, Magar and Newar along with priests from Jiwanpur, Dhading to Jamal and then to Hanuman Dhoka.

A team of Badagurujue, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police and high level civil servants along with others participate in the ceremony accompanied by musical bands, cultural dances etc.

Though Dashain is celebrated from the day of Ghatasthapana the actual celebrations begin with Phulpathi.
