KATHMANDU: Amid claims that the government is on the brink of collapse, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, the Nepali Congress leader, made it clear that his party was in favour of continuation of the present coalition government.

While speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Reporters' Club on Friday, Sitaula made it clear that no secret agreements were made in Singapore or any other place to topple the present government and form a new one. Sitaula refuted the claims that said Maoist supremo Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' and NC president Girija Prasad Koirala reached a deal in a meeting at a Singapore hospital. However, he acknowledged that the duo reached a deal on forming a high level political mechanism to speed up the peace process. He expected that the mechanism would be able to address all the obstacles in the peace process.

Sitaula said that the political imbroglio hovering over the country at present was just an outcome of mounting dissatisfaction among the parties. Sitaula suggested that the parties move ahead by learning from their past mistakes. Critising the government's performance in the peace process, Sitaula said," The army integration special committee failed to draft even a single deal on the integration process." He urged the government to move ahead focusing on the peace process. The Maoists should return the seized properties of the citizens to ensure its commitments to the peace process, said Sitaula.
