KATHMANDU: Former law minister and Kailali district leader of Nepali Congress (NC) Tek Bahadur Chokhyal passed away at his Anamnagar resident yesterday evening. He was 59.
His last rites were performed at Pashupati Aryaghat this evening. Chokhyal was suffering from kidney ailment. His body was kept at NC party office in Sanepa for final tribute earlier today. NC leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Acting President Sushil Koirala and Vice President Ram Chandra Poudel, including other party leaders and supporters, paid final tribute to him.
Former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand was also present on the occasion.
Deuba and Koirala covered his mortal remains with the party flag. The party decided to shut its central office and leave its flag half-mast tomorrow in the deceased leader’s honour. The party also postponed today’s Central Committee meeting for Monday.
Chokhyal is survived by wife Kalpana, two sons and a daughter. He had served a five-year jail term for his involvement in various democratic movements in the country.
