KATHMANDU: Police have arrested Nepali Congress cadre Prabesh Basnet for trying to attack NC President Sushil Koirala with a chair during a general meeting of the Kathmandu Constituency No. 4 of the party on Saturday morning.

Other two cadres secretary duo Narmada Pokharel and Shyam Sagat of Constitueny No. 4 along with an NC Youth leader have also sustained injuries while trying to defend President Koirala, said police.

“Expressing dissatisfaction over the party policy in a debate with the other cadres, Prabesh Basnet hurled a chair at President Sushil Koirala. However, Koirala dodged the chair, then other cadres loyal to Koirala began to thrash Basnet,” said eyewitness Ajaya Malla. Basnet is the president of Kathmandu Constituency No. 4 of the Nepali Congress.

Other two cadres were also slightly injured in the hullabaloo that ensued in the meeting.

Basnet, who was sent to the Metropolitan Police Range, Bouddha, was taken to Sinamangal-based Kathmandu Medical Hospital for treatment as he sustained injuries on his eyes and forehead in the attack.

The meeting has resumed after Basnet’s arrest.
