KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) general secretary Prakash Man Singh said that the leader of the Parliamentary Party (PP) of the party could be changed as per its constitution.

Singh was speaking at a programme organised by the Nepal Thakur Samaj, one of the NC’s sister wings, on the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of NC’s former president Girija Prasad Koirala in the capital on Tuesday.

“NC is a democratic party and if a proposal comes up according to the statute, the leader of the Parliamentary Party could be changed,” said Singh also NC’s deputy PP leader, adding that if the PP leader resigns then a new replacement would be made. However, he clarified that only the party’s PP leader can become the Prime Ministerial candidate.

Media has reported that NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba is campaigning for the PP leader’s post to be eligible to become the new PM. NC vice president Ram Chandra Paudel is the current PP leader.

On a different note, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal, Singh reasoned that PM Khanal who has not done made any contribution in regard to the peace and constitution drafting processes, should quit immediately. He also said that the PM should resign to implement the five point pact inked for the extension of the Constituent Assembly’s tenure.
