Mulmi records first-round win

KATHMANDU: Saroj Mulmi registered first round win in the nine-ball snooker at the third Indoor Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam on Sunday.

Mulmi outplayed Nahim Nasih Ali of Maldives 9-6. Rajan Lama, however lost to Nisuiks Ayab of Iraq 9-4. Mulmi will play his second round match on Monday. Apart from Rajan and Mulmi, Shyam Khadki is also participating in the event. Likewise, Nepali women boxers crashed out of the Games after losing their second round matches. Both Sanju Lama and Mala Rai had a first round bye but were eliminated in their first match in the ring.

Lama lost against Chao Wong of Macau 7-4 in the 51kg bout while Rai lost to Dilrukchi Anusha of Sri Lanka 12-1 in the 46kg bout. Both the boxers are set to return home on November 6. In all 17 players from five disciplines — basketball, archery, billiard, chess and boxing — are representing Nepali in the indoor regional meet.

Meanwhile, the second Asian Beach Games will be held in Muscat, Oman in December next year, the director of the organising committee Habib Maki informed at a press meet today. The nine-day event will see 2,000 players from 45 nations participating in 12 games. Football, handball, kabaddi, sepaktakro, volleyball, bodybuilding, jet ski, marathon swimming, sailing, tent pegging, triathalon and woodball are the disciplines included in the Games.
