KATHMANDU: Rajan Mukarung has won this year's Madan Puraskar for his Nepali novel Damini Bheer.
A meeting of the Madan Puraskar Guthi on Saturday decided to honour Mukarung with the prestigious award for his novel that portrays daily life and struggle of a marginalised Nepali community in rural Bhojpur district.
Jagadamba Shree to Thapa
Likewise, the Guthi decided to honour poet Ratna Shumsher Thapa with the Jagdamba Shree Puraskar for his contribution to the Nepali language through poems and songs for five decades, according to Kunda Dixit, a Guthi member.
Dixit made the announcements through social media site Twitter.

Both the Madan Puraskar* and the Jagadamba bear a purse of Rs. two lakh each.
Damini Bheer is Mukarung's second novel, while his four poetry collections were published earlier.
