BARDIBAS: Devotees participating in the Mithila Madhyamiki Parikrama or the Mithila circuit pilgrimage march, have entered the Mahottari District on Tuesday.

The Milthila Madhyamiki Parikrama is a great festival observed in the Mithila region in which the devotees complete a 137 km ancient pilgrimage march that takes them to different districts of Nepal as well as India.

In course of the march, the devotees spent the night at 13 different places in Nepal and two places in India.

The Mithila Madhyamiki march started from Hanumannagar of Dhanusha district on March 5. The journey is completed in 15 days. This pilgrimage march is an ancient tradition of the Mithila region and it commemorates the similar journey undertaken by the Hindu deity Ram and his consort Sita after their wedding.

Sita is the daughter of Janak, the philosopher king who ruled over the ancient kingdom of Janakpur.

Hundreds of devotes undertake the pilgrimage march carrying the palanquin that symbolizes the wedding between Ram and Sita.
