KATHMANDU: The UCPN-Maoist expressed sadness over the loss of property and lives in the earthquake that hit the Indian state Skkim boarding the eastern district Taplejung of Nepal. It further urged the government to make an early assessment of the properties damaged and provide relief to the victims.
“The party shares similar feelings with the families of those killed and wishes early recovery for the injured. It calls for the,” Maoist Spokesperson Dinanath Sharma said in a statement.
An earthquake, with its epicentre across the border between the eastern district Taplejung and Sikkim of India, measured 6.8 on the Richter scale, shook the Himalayan region 6:26 yesterday evening, leaving the people panic-stricken.
Assorted reports suggested that at least nine people, including three in the Capital and two in Dharan, were killed in the earthquake.
