KATHMANDU: At least 25 foreign and national climbers have gone missing in an avalanche in Manaslu peak in Gorkha district. Of them, bodies of nine have been found, said former chairman of the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) Ang Tsering Sherpa.
The avalanche took place at an altitude of 7,000 meters of the 8,156 m peak at 9:00 am today. Four helicopters of Simrik Air and Fishtail Air with 12 rescuers have been dispatched to the site for rescue of the victims, it is learnt.
According to executive chief of Himalayan Rescue Association Prakash Adhikari, the Tourism Industry Division under the Ministry of Tourism is cooperating with the rescue operation.The missing climbers are Germans, Italians and French citizens and Sherpa guides.
