KATHMANDU: Household quarrels and allegations of witchcraft have led to a cold-blooded homicide in Kirtipur-15, Pandechhap.
Acordiong to police, one Basanti Maharjan (42), a permanent resident of Kirtipur, was murdered by the younger brother of her own husband on December 21.
The suspect who was nabbed on Tuesday this week has been identified as Hari Bahadur Maharjan (46). In a statement taken by Metropolitan Police Crime Investigation Division (MPCID), Hari Bahadur has confessed to have murdered his sister-in-law. According to him, household conflicts and suspicion that the deceased had been practicing 'witchcraft' motivated him to commit the murder. Hari Bahadur is a construction labourer by profession.
Police initiated an investigation into the case after Basanti's husband Umesh lodged a complaint stating that his wife had been missing since the morning of December 21. "During the course of probe, we discovered that the woman was beaten to death by Hari Bahadur, who later burried the dead body at the cow shed on the premises of his own house in Pandechhap," said SSP Bijay Lal Kayastha, the MPCID In-charge. "The suspect is under our custody. We are carrying out further investigations into the case."
