BIRGUNJ: Locals of Birgunj organised a rally today by demanding to declare Birgunj as the capital of the Bhojpura State in the federal structure. The locals also demanded to keep Bhojpura region undivided.


Phase-wise agitations have been launched from Saturday by forming a Joint Struggle Committee comprising representatives of civil society, political parties, entrepreneurs, media persons and human rights activists, among others. The locals also complained that Birgunj was neglected in the process of state restructuring despite its historic background and sufficient physical infrastructures.


According to a member of the struggle committee, Ram Sarraf, a memorandum to the government would be submitted through the chief district officer of Parsa in a bid to exert pressure to fulfill the demand.


He added that they will launch stern agitation if the government and authorities concerned paid no heed to this end.
