CHITWAN: A team under Women, Children and Social Welfare Committee of the Legislative-Parliament has been busy surveying the dengue affected areas in Chitwan and taking suggestions from the stakeholders.
Starting on-site supervision from yesterday, the three-member team has been meeting dengue patients, doctors, technicians of District Public Health Office, and people of dengue affected areas to take their suggestions.
Team coordinator and lawmaker Chitra Bahadur Shrestha said a final report will be prepared after collecting suggestions and it will be submitted to the government. The government a week ago had made a decision to send a team of lawmakers to dengue affected areas.
Shrestha said that the team, before this, had collected suggestions from the concerned bodies of dengue affected areas in Chitwan and Nawalparasi.
Shrestha stressed for a central strategy in view of the lack of manpower and resources to control the disease from the local level. "We will submit the report. There is an urgent need to be more aware as the situation here may take an epidemic form," said Shrestha.
Chitra Bahadur Shrestha of Unified CPN-Maoist, Uma Regmi of Nepali Congress and Sarada Kumal of UML are the team members.
It is said that there are 280 dengue patients in Chitwan as of now. Among them, only 23 are being treated, said vector control supervisor Ram KC of the District Public Health Office, Chitwan.
