Landslides turn tent into classroom

Himalayan News Service

BAJHANG: Any one visiting Shiva Secondary School in Deulikot VDC may take the tents erected on the school premises to be an encampment. But a close inspection at that can reveal the reality — grades 1 and 4 of the school are run there.

When one of the school buildings was swept away in the landslide following a heavy rain last month, 74 students of class 1 and 4 were forced to study under the tents.

Nara Bahadur Bohara, head teacher at the school, said they were compelled to teach the students under the tent when the two-room building was destroyed in the disaster. “Instead of halting their classes, we thought it was better to teach them under the tents,” he added. Five such schools have also been affected by landslide.
