KATHMANDU: Police arrested a man in possession of scales of Salak (Chinese Pangolin) from his backyard in Lamatar, Bishankhunarayan-6 on the outskirts of Lalitpur district.
Police identified the suspect as Sujaya Tamang (26) of Lamatar.
Based on intellegence input that Tamang had stashed away the scales of protected mammal after killing it, a team of security personnel raided his house and confiscated 300 gram of scales concealed in his backyard.
Salak is the common name of Chinese pangolin (Manis pantadactyla) and is a protected wild life species in Nepal.
The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) has categorised it in Appendix II, which includes species that are no yet threatened but could become endangered if trade is not controlled.
Police said that they are investigating into the case.
