Senior leader of the CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal, is reported to have urged the stakeholders recently in Rautahat not to create any obstacle to the Constituent

Assembly election at a time when the country is warming up for the Constituent

Assembly (CA), scheduled for November 19. According to him, Nepal could be listed as an unsuccessful state if the present government led by K R Regmi failed to hold the elections on the scheduled date. But I think the political parties on the HLPC could be listed as failed political parties if the CA election did not give birth to a constitution or if the Regmi Government failed to hold the election. However, the country would not be listed as an

unsuccessful state. It is hard to understand why and under which foreign country’s advice the HLPC is creating much noise about going into the risky adventure of the CA again.

UML leader Nepal will fail to guarantee a safe and peaceful journey for the country if the CA election is conducted.

Political parties should agree to convert the election into a national referendum for the

ratification by the people of an expert-drafted republican constitution that would be the surest way to peace ahead. Pragya Ananda, Kathmandu

Be rigid

I have heard that major parties, including UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, have stood against the one Madhes idea at a time when Madhes-based parties are working to either form an alliance or go for mergers/unifications with other regional parties to press the agenda of an ‘autonomous one Madhes province’. I would like to opine that the Federal Republic of Nepal could have three states, the state of Eastern Madhes, Western Madhes and the Shlesmantak State. It was not right to oppose only one Madhes state if the Madhesis wanted that way. It would be very important to have a very rigid constitution that guarantees the proportional representation/reservation in all the agencies of the state governments for all of the ethnic communities of the states. Corruption and impunity must end in all the proposed states. Transparent, cost effective, smooth and good government should be the right of all the people of the states. The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nepal should make clear and easy provisions for the merging of two or more states at any time in the future.

Luck

In the final of the 2013 Champions Trophy, which is the last edition of the

tournament, India won the tense match against England by 5 runs after the South Asian team lost the toss and scored 129-7 from the revised 20 overs. However, the team went on to defeat the host after restricting England for 124-8. Luck didn’t favour the English team even this time as the home team should have won this match with ease. Anyway the victory proves India’s supremacy in one-day cricket and shows the capability of this team which is making good progress.. Now it is time for the Nepalese cricket team to keep on giving consistently sterling performance like India did to win this second most prestigious title in ODI cricket.
