KALIKOT: Local people are thronging Mahabulek, the border between Kalikot and Dailekh districts, to collect Yarchagumba (Cordyceps sinesis), a rare species of plant widely used in clinical medicine.
Be it senior citizens or children, all are on Yarchagumba trail. Mahabulek lies at Odanduk VDC in the north of Kalikot’s district headquarters Manma. Yarchagumba was not seen in Mahabulek last year. Yarcha is a combination of insect and plant that remains inactive in winter and comes out in summer.
Interestingly, students are also climbing up to the hills in search of Yarchagumba ignoring their study. Yarchagumba fetches up to $2,100 per kg in the international market.
According to a local, Padam Singh, a person is collecting up to two kg of Yarchagumba daily.
