Sarita Limbu‚ 35‚ of Mechi Municipality-10 sustained critical injury on her waist when the policeman opened fire

BHADRAPUR: Kin of the victim of the firing on Tuesday night in Kakadbhitta of Jhapa district called a chakka jam (transport strike) here today.


The transport service was disrupted since 11:45 today after the local people obstructed the roadway in front of old customs office along the East-West Highway, according to Area Police Office, Kakadbhitta.


Sarita Limbu, 35, of Mechi Municipality-10 sustained critical injury on her waist when the policeman opened fire in an attempt to take action against the betel nut smugglers, said police.


Injured Limbu is undergoing treatment at Om Sai Pathibhara Hospital.


The locals claimed that Manoj Chaudhary, police personnel at the Regional Investigation Bureau opened fire after the locals and Chaudhary exchanged words when he had gone to meet a woman from Tharu community of Bhansa Khola living temporarily in the municipality at around 10:00 pm, Tuesday.


The demonstrators demanded action against Chaudhary and compensation to the victim.
