KATHMANDU: In a sad development today, Kumar Shrestha alias Ghainte, a notorious criminal of the country facing several criminal charges of Nepal Police, has gotten clean chit from the Kathmandu District Court (KDC).
A single bench of Judge Shekhar Prasad Paudel issued the clean chit following today’s hearing. The bench also directed the jail authority to release him.
“We have forwarded a letter to the jail authority for his release as per the bench order, he might be freed tomorrow,” Mahendra Nath Upadhayay, Registrar, KDC, told The Himalayan Times. He has been serving jail sentence at the Central Jail.
He was prosecuted last year on charge of attempted murder on Amit Lama, at Durbar Marg in Kathmandu.
The notorious criminal is in the most-wanted list of the police, which have booked him him for several murder cases and for possessing illegal arms and ammunition.
Ghainte was wanted by the police in connection with many crimes, including one attempted murder of a 38-year-old Kumar Malla.
The bench had slapped a fine of Rs 2,100 to Lama, for his false First Information Report (FIR) filed at the police based on which Ghainte was prosecuted.
“The bench slapped the fine for his baseless complaint,” Upadhayaya added. The police had filed the case against Ghaite accusing him of shooting Lama with an intention to murder him.
