GAJURI: Chairperson of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) – an umbrella organisation of journalists across the country – Shiva Gaunle said journalists’ agitation has not been put to an end since complete press freedom is still a far cry.
Many journalists have sacrificed their lives for complete press freedom as of today, he said, adding that their agitation for the cause will not cease until and unless state guarantees journalists’ right to freedom of expression.
Chairperson Gaunle made this remark while making public the ‘Nagarik Khabar’ – a weekly newspaper published from Wednesday – in Naubise of Dhading.
Today’s media should promote mission journalism coupled with professionalism, he stressed, urging media house to ensure professional security of journalists by providing them with minimum wages.
On the occasion, FNJ General Secretary Om Sharma said working journalists do not feel any significant changes despite the epochal changes occurred in media sector after the success of historic people’s movement in 2062-63 BS.
Ramesh Acharya is the publisher of the newspaper while Ramesh Lamsal has been appointed the chief editor.
