KATHMANDU: Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Kunio Takahashi on Friday called on former Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal at the latter's residence in Dallu.

During the meeting, the two discussed matters relating to Nepal's upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election, latest political situation in the country and Nepal-Japan relations and bilateral cooperation, among others.

On the occasion, the former PM Khanal said he is hopeful of timely election and added talks were underway with the dissenting political parties to bring them into the election process.

The Japanese Ambassador on the occasion welcomed the announcement of date for the CA election in Nepal and said the Japanese government is ready to extend all necessary supports to that end, according to Khanal's personal aide Rambabu Adhikari.
