Indie box office: another $4.6 million for "Moonrise Kingdom"

LOS ANGELES: It was a lackluster week for new films at the indie box office, but some holdovers continued to flex their muscles.


Focus Features' "Moonrise Kingdom" built more momentum in its second week of wide release, grossing $4.6 million from 884 locations, just a 6 percent drop from last week.


Wes Anderson's tale of tween love finished No. 9 nationally and has now grossed $26.8 million in is seven weeks of mainly limited release.


"To Rome With Love" crashed the top ten party this weekend, taking in $3.5 million.


Fox Searchlight expanded Woody Allen's comedy into 806 screens (up from 29) and it paid off with $4,342 per-screen average.


"Beasts of the Southern Wild" continued building steam, grossing $375,000 from 19 theaters over the weekend.


That's an impressive $19,673 per-screen average for director Benh Zeitlin's Sundance hit. Fox Searchlight plans to add 12 markets next weekend, upping its screen count to around 70 theaters.


Among the films opening, Mark and Jay Duplass' "Do-Deca-Pentathlon" bowed to just $10,000 from 8 screens for Red Flag Releasing, a $1,250 per-screen average.


"The Magic of Belle Isle," from director Rob Reiner and Magnolia Pictures, took in $11,000 from four screens, a $2.750 per-screen average.


Zeitgeist Films' "China Heavyweight" from director Yung Chang made $4,004 on a single screen.
