SOLUKHUMBU: Hospitals are for care and comfort of the sick people, but what if a hospital is running without a toilet?
But this is what patients have to face the situation at the District Hospital in Solukhumbu.
Patients reaching the hospital for treatment say their illness is further aggravated in the hospital for lack of toilet.
Mithumaya Basnet of Salleri who is being treated in the hospital bed, says she has to stay in the hospital without eating anything for fear of having to go to toilet.
The ill people have to go to the nearest jungle behind the hospital for relieving themselves as the only toilet in the hospital for sick people was closed for the past three months.
We have been facing problems as we cannot go to forest while in rain and in mornings and evenings, for fear of snakes, said another patient Man Bahadur Karki.
To add to their woes, water leaks on their beds and they have been compelled to live under umbrella or plastics.
On this, Hospital Management Committee Chairman Prem Kumar Rai said this problem should be seen by the hospital in-charge, whereas in-Charge Dr. Ramkaji Baniya said he has only the responsibility of treating the sick people.
Toilet could not be made for lack of resources even if attempts were made, said officiating chief of the District Health Office, Narayan Tamang.
District Hospital Faplu is the only hospital in the lower part of the district. It has 15 beds and vacancy for five doctors but only one has been working.
