KATHMANDU: Department of Foreign Employment has introduced a new provision for medical reports that migrant workers require with some revisions in the current system that Nepal Health Professional Federation has been following. A medical report is mandatory to avail a foreign job permit.

According to the department, the revision has been made to bring in uniformity in medical reports. “It is a new initiative in the Medical Examination Report and all medical centres issuing medical reports must follow it,” said director at the department Kashi Raj Dahal.

The Gulf Cooperation Council Approved Medical Centres along with Nepal Health Professional Federation must follow the changed Medical Examination Report procedure. About 12 Gulf Cooperation Council approved medical centres and 205 medical centres associated with the federation have been issuing medical certificates for migrant workers.

Migrant workers and outsourcing agencies have to submit four copies of the MER certificate including the original certificate. “Medical certificates must have the hologram of Nepal Health Professional Federation,” he said.

About 350,000 Nepalis have joined foreign jobs in recent years. The Gulf Cooperation Council approved medical centres have been issuing MER for Gulf countries while others have been issuing medical reports for Malaysia and a couple of Gulf countries like Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
