KATHMANDU: Australian Ambassador to Nepal Susan Grace today handed over 1,300 pairs of goggles to Metropolitan Traffic Police Division chief DIG Ganesh Raj Rai amid a function at the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology.
The protective eye gear was handed over to traffic police as part of the Australian assistance to the institute, the embassy said in a statement.
Ambassador Grace, speaking at the programme, acknowledged the difficult conditions in which traffic police have to work due to pollution and the high volume of traffic.
DIG Rai thanked the embassy and the institute for providing the gear to traffic police. He said all 1,200 traffic police personnel in the Valley will receive a pair each.
“We have brought the goggles in use from today itself. It is not coloured and can be used both during day and night,” informed DIG Rai.
An on-duty traffic policeman wearing the goggles in Putalisadak said he was happy with his new gear. “It will protect my eyes from dust and vehicular emission,” he said.
