KATHMANDU: Ram Prasad Gaudel, representing democratic panel, has been elected chairman for Supreme Court Unit under Nepal Bar Association held on Saturday.
Ram Prasad Gaudel has been elected chairman by obtaining 250 votes while his closest rival Mahendra Kanta Mainali had got 247 votes. Newly elect Chairman Gudel will lead the body for two years.
Similarly, Arbinda Kumar Singh has been elected vice-chairman, Egraj Pokharel has elected secretary while Raj Kumar Thapa has been elected Treasure.
Among those vying for the posts of nine members, Sadeep Kharel, Punya Prasad Dangal, Rishiram Sharma, Subhadra Sitaula, Mahendra Shrestha, Bijaya Singh Sijapati, among others, have been elected.
Held in every two years 29 candidates from two panels - democratic and progressive – had contested the election for 13-member Supreme Court Unit under Nepal Bar Association today.
The elected body will lead the unit for two years.
As many as 514 out of 541 voters had cast their votes in the election.
