DAILEKH: Dailekh District Court today remanded five Maoist cadres accused of murdering journalist Dekendra Thapa to custody till a final verdict and issued an arrest warrant against four others who were said to have taken part in the crime that was committed eight years ago.
Following the ruling by a single bench of Judge Ramkrishna Bhatta‚ Lakshiram Gharti Magar‚ Bir Bahadur KC‚ Jaya Bahadur Shahi‚ Harilal Pun and Nirak Gharti were sent to the district prison. The four Maoist cadres against who the arrest warrant has been issued are Bam Bahadur Khadka (Mukti)‚ Bam Bahadur Khadka (Arun)‚ Keshav Bahadur Khadka and Bhaktiram Lamichhane.
The Office of the District Attorney on Monday had filed a murder case against nine persons — five arrested and four on the run — seeking life imprisonment for all of them. Hearing on the case started on Wednesday.
Following court ruling to remand the murder accused‚ family of slain journalist Thapa today feted investigating officer Binod Sharma‚ advocates Gobind Bandi‚ Krishna Bahadur Hamal‚ Basanta Gautam‚ Dailekh chapter chairman of Federation of Nepali Journalists Puskar Thapa and others.
Thapa’s mother Gangadevi said the court order has given her a hope that justice will prevail.
Dailekh-based journalist Thapa was kidnapped by Maoist cadres on June 26‚ 2004‚ and was murdered on August 11 the same year.
