DAMAULI: Five people died and as many got injured in separate accidents in Tanahun, Kapilvastu and Arghakhanchi districts in the last two days.
In Tanahun, three people died and one got injured when a bus bound for Birgunj from Pokhara hit the pedestrians at Jamune VDC-3 yesterday.
The deceased are Rajan Ranabhat (45) and his nephews Anil (23) and Resham (42) of Jamune. Injured in the accident, Rajan’s son Asmit (16) is receiving treatment at the Ratna Hari Memorial Hospital, police said.
Rajan died on the way to hospital, Anil died at the Manipal Teaching Hospital and Resham breathed his last on
the way to the Kathmandu-based Neuro Hospital.
Police have taken bus driver Gita Prasad Sharma (24) of Bhajwan-9, Parsa, into custody for investigation.
After the accident, locals shut the Khairenitar-Damauli road from 10 pm till 3 am yesterday to press for compensation to the bereaved families, treatment for the injured and action against the culprit. Vehicular movement after the Prithvi Highway Bus Operators’ Committee and the bereaved families reached an agreement as per which the committee will provide Rs 25,000 to each bereaved family and provide more funds later on. The relatives received the bodies and performed last rites today.
In Kapilvastu, Dev Bahadur Bista (32) of Darchula died when a motorcycle he was riding collided with another bike at Dageri along the Taulihawa-Khunwa road today. Injured in the accident, Indian national Aditya Prasad Das and motorcyclist Satyandra Prasad Srivastav were rushed to Bhairahawa Teaching Hospital for treatment.
In Arghakhanchi, Jiban Mukhiya (30) of Sandhikharka died and two people were injured when the tractor he was driving met with an accident at Dhanchaur-6 today. The are receiving treatment at a health facility.
