KATHMANDU: Agitating filmmakers and artistes ended their fast-unto-death after reaching an 11-point agreement with the Ministry of Information and Communications today.
Minister for Information and Communications Rajkishor Yadav offered juice to the protesters, who were on strike since Tuesday against the appointment of Kumar Marbaita aka ‘Pappu’ as Film Development Board (FDB) chairperson, saying that the government should appoint someone who has contributed to mainstream cinemas.
Meanwhile, newly appointed Chairperson ‘Pappu’ will assume office on Sunday.
Minister Yadav said the ministry was always committed to providing autonomy to the film fraternity. Representatives from the film industry Raj Kumar Rai, Nawal Khadka, and Ram Kishor Bogati held talks with the government.
According to the accord, the ministry has agreed to amend within two months the film autonomy bill after holding dialogue with various stakeholders, appoint office-bearers and chairperson of FDB and the Censor Board from among filmmakers and artists, who are professional and apolitical, hold consultation with stakeholders before appointing office bearers and amend the Film Regulation, if necessary, within two months to implement the pact.
