Fair price shop in Bhaktapur for Dashain

Himalayan News Service

BHAKTAPUR: District Administration Office (DAO), Bhaktapur, Nepal Food Corporation and Salt Trading Corporation today established a fair price shop at Gapali in Surya Binayak, Bhaktapur, to give some relief to the consumers from price hike of food items, recently.

Deepak Raj Nepal, Chief District Officer, told The Himalayan Times that the shop was set up in Bhaktapur to give relief to the consumers hit hard by the recent price hike.

He said that the shop would be open for four days and sell food items at prices fixed by the government. “Sugar will be available at Rs 53 per kg at the shop,” he added. Elsewhere, it is priced Rs 63 per kg.

Hundreds of consumers from Gapali and adjoining areas thronged the shop to get essentials for the Dashain festival. However, such single shop is not enough as local residents in other parts of the district are still bearing the brunt of price hike, locals say.

The shopkeepers are charging more than the government fixed price but the administration has been indifferent to curb the irregularities rife, the locals outraged.
