KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has decided to hold nation-wide protest prorammes from tomorrow, calling for the cancellation of the government's recent decision regarding the classification of information on Monday.

Stating that the decision was intended at curtailing the people's right to information, the Federation has called for immediate scraping of the decision.

The Federation, through its press release today, has urged all media workers, legal practitioners, civil society representatives and human rights activists to join the protest program at 3:00 pm tomorrow in front of the Division of Roads, Babar Mahal, and in all the District Administrations Offices out of the Kathmandu Valley on February 1 and 2.

The current governments decision to classify information is odious indeed. The FDJ is quite right to have program of protests against this decision. If the government had been stronger and more organized it is sure that we would have seen more of the same tendencies come to the for. That is so very sad. Must the choice always be between the status-quo and those who would curtail our civil freedoms and liberty? It seems that in Nepal there are no reasonable parties who would empower the poor people and take away the spoils and richs from those who have stolen them. This is sad in the extreme.
