KATHMANDU: At a time when public outrage over the government decision to provide facilities to former bigwigs is gaining height, former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand on Thursday returned the government vehicle provided to him as a part of facilities to the former prime minister.
“The criticism of decision to provide state facilities to former VIPs drew my attention, hence I decide to return all state facilities,” the press release issued by Chand states.
Former prime ministers Madhav Kumar Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and Jhalanath Khanal have already returned the vehicles.
Similarly, former speakers Ramchandra Paudel and Subas Nembang had returned their vehicles and announced that they won’t take state facilities.
Chand had not taken monthly house rent from the government.
Only diesel service was provided to him, which by now he won’t be using.
Chand decided to return the state facilities at a time when the Supreme Court has stayed implementation of the July 18 ordinance aimed at providing state facilities to former VIPs.
