KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal underwent laser lithotripsy to remove stone that travelled to ureter from kidney, at the Alka Hospital on Saturday.

He had visited the Lalitpur-based hospital for routine check-up during which the doctors found that the stone sitting in his kidney had moved to the ureter. "Thus, he was admitted at the hospital for laser treatment this morning," Khanal's personal secretary told THT Online.

Khanal was suffering from kidney stone for months.

A team of uro-surgeons— Dr Suman Sharma and Dr. Rajesh Bataju, and Dr Ashuman Agrawal from the New Delhi-based Apollo Hospital—carried out the procedure at the Alka Hospital, which does not need open surgery.

Khanal was moved to the post-operative ward following the procedure. He drank juice and black tea there, according to Adhikari.

It is likely that he will be discharged today itself, Adhikari said.

In March, Khanal had undergone surgery of his prostrate gland in the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. Dr Agrawal had carried out the surgery.
