NEPALGUNJ: Doctors and staffs at the Nepalgunj-based Bheri Zonal Hospital today padlocked hospital administration and demanded resignation of medical superintendent Dr Narendra Kumar Ray.
The agitators, led by the Hospital Development Committee Employees Union and Bheri Zonal Working Committee, also staged a sit-in on the hospital premises.
Their demands included resignation of Dr Ray, probe into financial irregularities, recruitment of vacant posts, and immediate operation of CT-scan, ICU and free treatment for the poor.
The agitators also warned of shutting down the hospital for indefinite period of time if their demands were not addressed.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has appointed child specialist Dr Binod Khetan as the new medical superintendent, who was earlier transferred from the Bheri Zonal Hospital, informed hospital sources.
The agitating doctors and health workers said they will continue their protest until all their demands were addressed by the new superintendent.
“Despite calls for talks, we will continue our agitation unless our demands are met,” struggle committee coordinator Dr RK Jha said.
