KATHMANDU: Chairman of Unified CPN-Maoist and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal today asked the chairman of the interim election cabinet Khil Raj Regmi to provide him with a helicopter to visit the flood-hit areas.
According to Dahal’s secretariat, he met Regmi this morning at Baluwatar and made the request. He also asked the government to provide the flood victims’ families Rs 1 lakh each. Dahal had planned to visit the affected areas today but due to a delay in the arrangement of a helicopter he is expected to go there only on Saturday. According to a minister, even a former prime minister is not entitled to free rides in a government helicopter. “Except the President, incumbent PM, Defence Minister and Chief of the Army Staff, helicopter cannot be used by any other person on behalf of the government,” the minister told The Himalayan Times on condition of anonymity. For others, the government can, however, bear the expenses of using the helicopter or wave the charge.
According to him, since the government does not have a separate helicopter and has been using Nepal Army choppers, so the government cannot take a decision in this regard. “One can use army an army helicopter by spending at least Rs 1 lakh per hour,” he added.
