Condition of Bhutanese Refugee women on fast-unto-death deteriorates

As many as 3‚649 Bhutanese refugees of Jhapa and Morang districts have been deprived of identity cards.

BHADRAPUR: Health condition of Bhutanese Refugee women of Beldangi, who have started fast-unto-death demanding identity cards and relief to the refugees for the past four days, is being critical.


Women Group Advisor of the fast-unto-death programme R.B. Subba said among the participants of the fast-unto-death, Indrakala Bhandari, Chandramaya Khadka, Indira Bhattarai and Tulasa Dhakal have fallen sick. As many as 15 women started the hunger strike from Tuesday.


It has been reported that out of the 15 participants, three went unconscious on Thursday and some of them have been taken to Amda Hospital, Damak, for treatment.


As many as 3,649 Bhutanese refugees of Jhapa and Morang districts have been deprived of identity cards.


Chairperson of the Group, Durga Devi Bista informed that they will continue the hunger strike until their demands were fulfilled.


Bista further said they have been deprived of various facilities including relief as they have been living in camps without identity cards.
