KATHMANDU: Art is not just for art’s sake and the ‘Unity for Charity’, a joint exhibition by artists Nabin Kumar Shrestha and Ramesh KC, has proved this. All the proceeds from the exhibition will be given to the recent flood and landslide victims in the western districts of Nepal. The exhibition was inaugurated by Pratima Pande, Director of Kathmandu Valley Preservation Trust, on October 23 at the Mithila Yain Art Gallery in Thamel.

Pinnacles of temples and waterfalls dominate the creations. The paintings by Shrestha chiefly exhibit landscapes, especially waterfalls and rivers whereas KC’s paintings largely revolve around temples and stupas.

Except for a few collages by KC, the paintings are done in acrylic. Though most of Shrestha’s paintings have springs and rivers, each painting leaves its own impression on the observer as they are portrayed differently. His paintings primarily feature dark colours like black and brown, while white comes only as the colour of water. Besides these, he has also depicted the natural beauty of the sun during dawn and dusk with almost life-like effects of light. In one of this his paintings titled Sunrise the artist has showcased sun in the horizon and a tree of unique shape in the forefront.

The creations by KC give

a semi-abstract impression as the temples and stupas are placed against background with an abstract paintings. He has used both light and dark colours but has kept them separate by using only one variety in one canvas. Those done with light hues have an interesting colour combination, which instantly attracts and holds the viewer’s sight. The exhibition is on till October 27.
