KATHMANDU: Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi today urged government attorneys to play an impartial role in strengthening the criminal justice system of the country.

“The impartial role that the prosecutors have to play will help in restoring public faith in the justice system,” said Regmi, while inaugurating the government attorney’s annual review programme at Telkot, Bhaktapur today.

“The Supreme Court is ready to provide the coordination that is required for that purpose,” CJ Regmi added.

Government attorneys should be free from influence in order to protect the rule of law and the basic rights of the citizens, Attorney General Mukti Narayan Pradhan said, while addressing the same programme.

Although the post of attorney General is very much a political appointment, he cannot go beyond the constitutional and legal parameters, Pradhan said.

President of Nepal Bar Association Prem Bahadur Khadka, Supreme Court Bar Association Chief Krishna Prasad Sapkota, Chairman of Law Commission Umesh Chandra Jha, National Judicial Academy’s Executive Director Raghav Lal Vaidya and Additional Inspector General of Police Prakash Kunwar also stressed coordination between stakeholders for strengthening the criminal justice system.
