KATHMANDU: Acting on tips from local residents, police on Saturday found a headless bronze idol of Lord Buddha in a gorge at Chunikhel, police officals said. They said they have launched an investigation into the incident. However, authorities have refused to provide details.

‘Snatcher’ thrashed

BHAKTAPUR: Locals on Saturday thrashed Raju Lama (23) of Nuwakot on the charge of trying to snatch a gold chain from Kamal Giri in Sanga Chowk. According to police officials, the locals assaulted Lama as Giri cried out for help. They later handed Lama over to police officials. Lama, who has suffered injuries on his face, is receiving treatment at Korean Hospital in Sanga.

Central jail inmate dies

KATHMANDU: Deepak Singh, who had been doing time in the Central Jail on theft charges, died while he was being rushed to Bir Hospital on Friday. According to police officials, he was referred to the hospital after he complained of chest pain a few days ago. Kathmandu District Court had sent Singh to jail on April 4, 2012. Police said Singh’s death is under investigation.
