Breach of CPA with Kirant republic

Dilip Khatri

KHOTANG: Agitating Unified Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist today announced autonomous Kirant republican state. Maoist central politburo member and Kirant State People’s Movement Committee coordinator Gopal Kiranti made the announcement in Khotang district headquarters Diktel.

UCPN-Maoist chairman Prachanda had recently said the programme of announcing the republican state was withdrawn following immense pressure from several quarters, who say such a declaration was against the Comprehensive Peace Accord and violated interim constitution.

Kiranti, however, claimed that he made the announcement only after Prachanda gave his nod. “This declaration is only symbolic,” he said. In the declaration assembly, Kiranti threatened to chase out feudalists, expansionists and supporters of imperialists from the republican state. “Nobody will be ruled in this state. Rather, people will be the rulers,” he said.

According to UCPN-Maoist, Bhojpur, Khotang, Udaypur, Okhaldunga, Solukhumbu and Sankhuwasabha will form Kirant republican state.

Representatives of Maoists, CA members from Khotang and Bhojpur districts, central leaders of several organisations and even activists from rural areas had participated in the assembly. Before the assembly, they had organised a rally in headquarters Diktel.

On Saturday, the UCPN-Maoist had announced Tamsaling an autonomous republic state in Kathmandu in a symbolic declaration.
